The studio

At Fortrea’s AIML Rapid Development Studio, I help turn ideas into working applications for clinical research. My role spans technical exploration, hands-on development, architectural decisions, and delivery.

Our studio brings product, design, data science, AI expertise, ML expertise, and engineering together with clinical, operational, and educational experts. We work across AI/ML, mobile applications, and AR/VR experiences.

A balanced team, with shared ownership

Product and design help define the problem and the experience. Data science, AI/ML, and engineering test the technical approach. Clinical, operational, and educational experts shape what the application needs to do in practice.

I build working prototypes that give us something concrete to examine together. The team can discuss the interaction and the technical approach alongside the needs of the people who will use it.

The Fortrea team.

One shared product problem

Product & design
Product direction and the user experience, from the problem we choose to the interaction we prototype.
Data, AI/ML & engineering
Data science, machine learning, AI expertise, and software engineering working through the technical approach together.
Domain expertise
Clinical, operational, and educational experts connecting the work to real settings and needs.

A broad development remit

The studio works across several kinds of software and interaction. That range brings application engineering, model behavior, and user experience into the same conversation.

AI & machine learning
Exploring how models and data can support clinical research through usable applications.
Mobile applications
Developing experiences for phones, with attention to the setting in which people use them.
AR & VR
Building immersive experiences as part of the studio’s broader work with mixed reality.

From exploration to delivery

I work with product, design, and domain experts to scope the problem and decide what a prototype needs to demonstrate. I investigate technical options and build enough of the application for the team to try the idea and identify what needs to change.

As the work develops, I carry those decisions into application design and implementation. I coordinate with engineering partners on dependencies, milestones, and release planning while continuing to contribute code.

Hands-on engineering at staff level

My responsibility includes both building software and setting technical direction. I work through architectural choices, assess technical tradeoffs, and help the team plan for operation and maintenance beyond the prototype.

I represent AI in architecture reviews and work with cybersecurity, vendors, and engineering partners. Those conversations connect application development with the review and delivery responsibilities of a clinical research organization.

FluSync

Proactively optimizing clinical trial operations and aligning resources with integrated disease prevalence insights

FluSync explores how disease surveillance and site-level data can guide clinical trial operations. It brings WHO, CDC, and ECDC data into comparative views and follow-up workflows. The paper describes a conceptual tool and simulation.

I contributed to this paper as part of the AIML Rapid Development Studio and am credited in its acknowledgments.
